Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information

The Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information (NRC-CISTI) is Canada’s national science library and the library of the National Research Council of Canada.

For over 80 years, NRC-CISTI has been an integral component in the growth of Canada’s innovation capacity, providing Canada’s research community with high-value authoritative information and information services in science, technology and health to accelerate innovation and commercialization.

As Canada’s National Science Library, NRC-CISTI is working to ensure that the valuable data generated by Canadian researchers are collected and remain findable, citable and accessible for replication and further use.

In keeping with this effort, NRC-CISTI is a founding member of DataCite and is its DOI allocation agent for Canada.

NRC-CISTI has established DataCite Canada to serve as a central research dataset registration service that will enable Canadian data centres to register research datasets and assign digital object identifiers (DOIs) to them.

The DataCite Canada registration service is expected to launch in early 2012.
